I've told this story many times. It inspired me five (5) years after it was told to me to lose weight and feel great. The Roast Beef diet works. It works absurdly well. Here's how I lost 50 pounds in 12 weeks on the Roast Beef diet.

How I lost 50 Pounds in 12 Weeks with The Roast Beef Diet

So I'm standing in line at the deli counter at a Smith's grocery store in Kalispell, Montana. There's a slim guy standing in line in front of me, a few people ahead of him and a great big guy ordering at the counter.

The slim guy ahead of me calmly looks around, glances back, gives a satisfied smile and announces, "I used to look like that guy."

His comment raised my attention and I inquired, "That guy?" as I nod towards the big guy at the counter.

"Yeah. Then I went on the Roast Beef Diet." replied the slim guy.

"Really?" I replied in disbelief. The guy at the counter was round like a pear and this guy was lean and trim. It is possible, but hard to believe. I thought to myself, "Is this guy pulling my leg?"

With a confident grin, slim guy replies, "Let me tell you how it works."

Just Eat Roast Beef?

Slim guy turns around and begins his story, "This is the easiest diet in the world. All I do is eat roast beef. It's just that simple."

With a bit of disbelief, I reply, "Really?" again.

"Sure." said the slim guy. "There are so many ways to prepare it. The important part is not to eat anything else. No bread. No rice. No chips. No veggies. No potatoes. No fast food. Just roast beef."

Skeptically and with a bit of hesitation, I ask, "Just roast beef?"

"Yes. Roast beef." replied slim guy. "You can sprinkle in flavor and variety. For dinner, I will have a philly cheese steak, just no bread. I add small amounts of sautéed onions and mushrooms. You can eat as much as you want."

The Roast Beef Diet – Eat As Much As You Want?

Slim guy clarifies, "The best part is you can eat as much as you want. There's no counting calories. There's no meal portions. There's no fancy grocery shopping. It's great. You can eat as much roast beef as you want."

I nod in understanding and encourage slim guy to continue his story.

"That's why I like it so much." Said slim guy. "I can lose weight and eat as much as I like."

Now slim guy has my undivided attention. I was inline to get some lunch meats and potato salad. I was fairly content with my life at the time and I had no particular interest or need to lose weight. At the time, I had a hefty football player build although I was 40+ pounds overweight and out of shape.

The Roast Beef Diet: Weight Loss for Men

Slim guy continues, "Let's take a step back. For the last 20,000 years men did not sit around the village baking bread."

Sliced Roast Beef

"Men hunted." said slim guy.

"Fair enough." I replied.

"First, we hunted for animals close to the village. As those animals became scarce, our hunting territory expanded and we had to walk further. The hunts got longer and longer and we (men) walked further and further. Often hunting parties would go out for days and days." said slim guy.

By this time, the big guy at the counter was gathering his items including a classic 8-piece fried chicken bucket and two pounds of potato salad. As the big guy goes on his way, slim guy and I ease up a few feet closer to the counter.

Meat, Meat and Meat.

Explaining the logic, slim guy explained, "Men hunted. We hunted. We walked. We killed. We cleaned the game. We made fire. We grilled meat on the fire. We hiked back to the village with sacks and packs of meat for the entire village. We didn't sit around the village eating bread."

"We didn't take much food with us. We foraged along the way and ate at the hunting camp. After the kill, we ate and filled our bellies for the long walk back to the village. We dried meat and ate a lot of jerky." said slim guy.

"We did not sit around the village baking bread."

Smiths are owned by Kroger and look and feel quite similar. The deli counter is is popular with hot foods, specialty salads and fresh sliced meats.
